About our trips
Why travel with us?
We work where we live and know the areas we take you to. Our local knowledge enriches the trip and by striking the right balance between being active and relaxing, interpretation and personal freedom, traveling with our guides and your fellow adventurers enhances one’s experience. We visit remote areas and do things that are more difficult to carry out on your own. In the end going in a small group is also easier on the pocketbook.
What are your trips about?
Each of our trips provides a rewarding educational wilderness experience in remote part of Canada. Naturally, we are not intrusive of the natural and cultural environment and hope to create a better understanding for the world's wild places. Activities (hiking, kayaking, etc) are never the goal of any trip but rather the means of getting to and around a particular area. Most exploring is done on day trips from a base camp, and in some expeditions we backpack instead.
What do we provide?
First we give you detailed trip information and straightforward answers to your questions. We provide experienced guides, first class equipment and wholesome meals. Through attention to detail and extensive knowledge of the areas we visit, we give you a truly memorable vacation.
What about safety?
We place the highest priority on safety and use minimal impact practices when in the wilderness. We travel in small groups (5-9) and take pride in providing first-class equipment. Our guides are certified professionals who carry valid wilderness first-aid certificates, medical supplies, radios and satellite telephones. Along the Labrador and Hudson Bay coasts we have someone (participants and/or guides and/or Inuit boat crew) on bear-watch around the clock.
What shape do you have to be in?
In most cases, hiking, seakayaking or wilderness experience is an asset but is certainly not required. If you are in good health, in good shape and love the outdoors, you can participate. For serious backpacking expeditions (mentioned in the trip description), previous experience is required. We have learned that age and appearance are not good criteria to judge someone's physical or mental state. We therefore provide you with a detailed trip description, including duration of daily hikes, altitude and terrain. If you can comfortably enjoy these activities you will get the most out of the expedition you are interested in. If you have any doubts about your ability to enjoy our journeys, please get in touch with us to address your concerns.
