Do I need experience?

Kayaking and Canoeing
No experience necessary. You will get a thorough instruction, paddle in protected waters with additional guides. If time allows our guides can teach you more advanced techniques.

Hiking (day trip)
No experience necessary. We walk 4-8 hrs (including rests), mostly on trails but sometimes on game paths or along routes chosen by your guide. No climbing is involved, but scrambling is possible in all trips. Elevation gain ranges from 200 to 800 m

Backpacking (full pack)
Experience is an asset but not required (unless otherwise mentioned). On average we hike with full packs from 4 to 8 hours per day (including rests) in varied terrain. Some scrambling but no climbing. Elevation gain ranges from 50 to 900 m.

Who will I travel with?

Most of our participants come from Europe (78%) and others from Canada, USA and elsewhere. They are experienced travelers between 25 and 60 years of age and 30% travel solo. They are independent folks but choose to come with us because of our special destinations, programs and great guides. And traveling with like-minded people is a real pleasure especially if everyone is equally well informed and has common interests.

Many of our clients travel with us again (some already 11 times!). As a matter of fact, on any given trip 50% of participants have traveled with us before or come through a direct referral. Of course we work hard to ensure that we continue to deserve such loyalty.

About our trips

Why travel with us?
We work where we live and know the areas we take you to. Our local knowledge enriches the trip and by striking the right balance between being active and relaxing, interpretation and personal freedom, traveling with our guides and your fellow adventurers enhances one’s experience. We visit remote areas and do things that are more difficult to carry out on your own. In the end going in a small group is also easier on the pocketbook.

What are your trips about?
Each of our trips provides a rewarding educational wilderness experience in remote part of Canada. Naturally, we are not intrusive of the natural and cultural environment and hope to create a better understanding for the world's wild places. Activities (hiking, kayaking, etc) are never the goal of any trip but rather the means of getting to and around a particular area. Most exploring is done on day trips from a base camp, and in some expeditions we backpack instead.

What do we provide?
First we give you detailed trip information and straightforward answers to your questions. We provide experienced guides, first class equipment and wholesome meals. Through attention to detail and extensive knowledge of the areas we visit, we give you a truly memorable vacation.

What about safety?
We place the highest priority on safety and use minimal impact practices when in the wilderness. We travel in small groups (5-9) and take pride in providing first-class equipment. Our guides are certified professionals who carry valid wilderness first-aid certificates, medical supplies, radios and satellite telephones. Along the Labrador and Hudson Bay coasts we have someone (participants and/or guides and/or Inuit boat crew) on bear-watch around the clock.

What shape do you have to be in?
In most cases, hiking, seakayaking or wilderness experience is an asset but is certainly not required. If you are in good health, in good shape and love the outdoors, you can participate. For serious backpacking expeditions (mentioned in the trip description), previous experience is required. We have learned that age and appearance are not good criteria to judge someone's physical or mental state. We therefore provide you with a detailed trip description, including duration of daily hikes, altitude and terrain. If you can comfortably enjoy these activities you will get the most out of the expedition you are interested in. If you have any doubts about your ability to enjoy our journeys, please get in touch with us to address your concerns.
