What others say about this trip
Highlights in this trip are the combination of bears, whales and native culture. I so much enjoyed the absolute solitude of Porcher Island and the astounding knowledge and personable leadership of your guide.

Wilderness is unpredictable you told me, but what I have seen and experienced on this trip far exceeded my expectations. Your guide's knowledge of natural and native history is wonderful. I am going home with a backpack of great memories.

Bears and whales are true wilderness symbols, and we usually find them in places of great natural beauty. Large mammals play important ecological roles and feature prominently in native culture along the Pacific Northwest. In this wildlife expedition, we take you to where the bears and whales are and throughout our journey, you will get a chance to better understand and appreciate the rich, complex and vibrant wilderness in which these animals live. All North American bears, except polar bears, can be found along the BC and Alaska coasts. Their distant relatives, the sea mammals, ply the ocean waters. We often hear: 'I like bears but only from a distance' or 'Where are the whales? This trip is our answer.

We alternate between wildlife observation and adventure travel. We journey up Knight Inlet to observe grizzlies and black bears. A two-day sailboat excursion and a day trip through the Inside Passage give us the opportunity to look for and find orcas, humpbacks, grey whales and the playful Dall's porpoise. There is also time for true solitude, when we fly to a remote island off BC's northwest coast. From our base camp, we will explore the beaches and rocky headlands for signs and rare glimpses of wolves. The spectacular migration of salmon is a big part of this expedition, as they are a predictable food source for both bears and killer whales. We will also visit native heritage sites and go on one or two hikes in the alpine.
