What others say about this trip
I really did not know what to expect; unknown country, unknown area, unknown company. During the trip I did all kinds of new things and the whole trip was one enormous experience. I repeatedly pinched myself to see if I was dreaming or not; it so much looked like a movie but wasn't. Donald and Lo are fantastic leaders, attentive, fun, knowledgeable and safe. I also found it surprising that I turned out to be a lot more primitive than previously thought. Making delicious meals over a fire, building a sauna and smoking fish, canoeing and silently hiking through the bush all showed me how far removed we are from the outdoors and the natural world. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world and its northern shore is an exceptional wilderness area. Remote and beautiful, offshore islands feature protected bays, sandy beaches, rocky headlands and a tremendous variety of life. Geographic isolation of these islands has resulted in high concentrations of woodland caribou and beaver providing you with outstanding opportunities to view and photograph wildlife. Countless migratory birds also flock to the islands in spring and fall. Most of our travel is on foot, following well-worn caribou paths or the compass. But we will also explore from the water in our small powerboat and canoes. Groups are small on the islands (up to 6 participants) and your guide will make room to accommodate your special interests in wildlife photography or wildlife observation. Back on the mainland, we hike part of the spectacularly scenic coastal trail in Pukaskwa National Park through an area rich in otter, black bear and deer. We camp in a sandy cove close to Superior's sparkling waters, watching vermilion sunsets and listening to the lonesome call of the loon.

Nature Trek Canada has been involved in research projects here since 1988 and our ongoing field research in this wilderness area makes us well qualified to help you observe animals and interpret their behaviour in their natural habitat. The possibility even exists to assist in ongoing research! Join us on this most inspiring nature tour!
